Problems of a Kid With a Low Attention Span by Maleek - January 2014 Scholarship Essay

Growing up I had a problem studying and it was simple, it wasn't any way, shape, form, or fashion appealing to me. There wasn't anything that kept me focused. I would study for fifteen minutes and, with my low attention span, would be on the couch watching cartoons. One day I tried something different that changed the way I studied forever. I started to listen to music while studying.

For a while studying while listening to music cancelled out all of my distractions. Some would say that the music would make your mind wonder due to the lyrics but it made me focus. I could see my test and quiz grades improve tremendously. But later on in my life as I got older I started listening to more music and study less. This caused me to try a different approach on my problem which would be a more interactive approach.

Finally curing my bad study habit problem I started making flash cards and self quizzes on the topic while getting my parents and younger siblings to quiz me on the assigned topic. This appeared to be the solution to my problems as my grades started to sky rocket and I actually started to learn the material not just for the test but for life purposes in general.
