To be successful is to be a leader by madison - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Leadership skills in my perspective (in terms of college-related circumstances) are specific skills for being solely responsible for taking matters into one’s own hands and controlling actions based on surroundings. For example, a student living in a dorm will need to take control of their needs and responsibilities in the room and also accommodate their roommates’ needs. In order for the roommates to be civil and adapt to one another’s lifestyles, one roommate would need to take control and meet with the roommate to discuss the differences and similarities in each other. This way, each roommate can have a decent understanding about the other and keep things going smooth between the two for an easy living experience.
Not only are leadership skills vital in living arrangements, but students in general (living on campus and off) need to also provide skills for responsibility and perseverance. In college, the professors will not tell students what chapters/pages are to be read for the time being until they return to their class again. The professors do tell them when the date of the test is, so it is the student’s responsibility to read and study up until that point to be prepared for the test. Students must be diligent on studying and become proactive in planning time into their schedules to make themselves ready for tests and exams. Leadership skills come in to play in this situation by having students take charge and acknowledge that they must do all of these items on their own. The students must take the time to develop conscientious study habits that will benefit them until their graduation date, where all of that planning, studying, and responsibility will finally pay off.
College is overwhelming: the cost is unbearable and being in a new place without parents takes being overwhelmed off the charts. Being a college student is full of stress and assignments that seem to pile up over the semester. With wonderful leadership skills, one can be organized, prepared, and proactive in becoming a successful college student.
