Extracurriculars- An Easy Way to Make an Impact by Madison - November 2019 Scholarship Essay

High school is an amazing experience. There is not a better place than high school to make lasting friendships, find a passion, or learn something new. Our school even promotes personal growth by encouraging all students to participate in an extracurricular or club that could benefit them. This being said, we are approaching senior year and many reflections will be made. Not only will the seniors be self-reflecting, but the other members of the school community will be also. The most important way I believe I have impacted my school is through being involved in many extracurriculars, that have helped my leadership skills.
If I had not become involved in extracurriculars, I would have never spent as much time caring about the well-being of our school. While participating in three sports, I have learned a lot of leadership skills that I would not have without participation. I have learned that the best thing a leader can do is have a positive attitude. There is nothing better than being around someone who always thinks the sun is shining down the right way on them, and attitudes are contagious and seem to spread throughout a community.
Through my time being a leader in the school, I have been able to encourage others to volunteer, have a better day, or to meet someone new. Not only have I grown myself, I have watched some of the underclassmen become leaders too, with some of them following my example, and they encourage others too. Being selected a leader has been something that has also had a lasting effect on me and has given me a more positive outlook in life.
Becoming a leader is what I believe has become the most lasting impression that I will leave in the school; and I hope I am remembered well for the time that I have spent in high school. I also hope that other students will follow my example and also become leaders in our school that I have loved for the last four years.
