Dealing with Distraction by Madison - September 2014 Scholarship Essay

College is filled with new opportunities for students. For many, college is the first time students will live on their own. With this new found freedom comes responsibility that can be hard to develop. I believe that the ability to deal with distraction is an important skill needed for success in college.

Whether it is friends, parties, or dating in college, there are many things that can distract from the true reason why students attend. Every kid wants to make friends and have fun experiences, but it can often get out of hand. It is important to understand how to deal with these distractions to get the education we are paying for in college. When we don’t understand how to properly deal with distractions it is easy to find oneself failing classes you've paid and worked hard to take. Distractions are always around us and will always be around us. If we don’t learn how to control ourselves and deal with them we will never be able to complete the things we are supposed to in college.

Dealing with distraction is mainly about priorities. Students need to realize what is important for success in their career choice and make that their priority. When a goal is set in mind, it is possible to deal with distractions and see the bigger picture.

Distractions will follow everyone throughout their lives. In college, as new opportunities arrive, it is essential to understand how to deal with these distractions to have a successful college career.
