Conspiracy Theories: The World Needs To Open Their Eyes by Madison - July 2017 Scholarship Essay

People have always spoken out against the government and have been skeptical of events that have taken place but why has nothing ever been done about these? Conspiracy theories have been on the rise for the past few years with many new ones coming to light and many old ones being proven. Some of the most widely known conspiracy theories range from JFK being assassinated by the CIA, Paul McCartney dying and being replaced, and my all time favorite, the moon landing being faked by NASA. Conspiracy theories have always been around but why has no one ever really spoken out about that? We answer that with another conspiracy theory- the government has been killing anyone that tries to speak out in fear that others will believe them and start to investigate and find out the truth.
For as long as I can remember, I have been researching conspiracy theories and trying to educate myself on the factuality of them. Many of them seem far fetched but there are a few that stick out to me that really got me wondering. The first one that I ever came across was that the moon landing was faked. As many people may know, the United States and Russia were in a space race to see who go into space first. After realizing the competition was going to beat us, the US government decided to fake the moon landing to claim victory over Russia. The theory goes that the government set up a studio to look like the moon and they made it look like they had been there. There are a few key details that have been pointed out over the years that make America’s claim that they landed on the moon first less and less valid. The most glaring piece of evidence is that there appears to be shadows being casted in different directions which would imply that there were multiple light sources which would be quite impossible considering the only light source on the moon would be the sun. Another strong piece of evidence is that the American flag in the photos seems to be blowing in the wind which is not possible considering their is no wind in space. NASA claims to have taken multiple photos on the moon, one of which was said to be taken miles apart from each other but in the background, the rocks and hills are identical. There is a very slim chance that two landscapes look identical that far away. One more key item of evidence is in the photos that were claimed to be taken on the moon, the astronauts seem to be hanging from wires to match the gravity on the moon when they jump. NASA has tried to deny these claims but all the evidence points to the moon landing never happening.
The next biggest conspiracy theory is the one that states that former president John F. Kennedy was assassinated by the CIA. During Kennedy’s presidency, he was very against the CIA and it was believed that he was going to shut them down. In attempts to keep the CIA in order, they believed that they could assassinate Kennedy and blame it on Lee Harvey Oswald who was also believed to be part of the CIA. John F Kennedy was shot twice, once in the head and once in the neck while riding in a car in front of many people. Lee Harvey Oswald was charged with his murder but was then murdered before he could reach trial. One piece of evidence is that the original autopsy report said that the shots were fired from the sixth floor of a building and it was a single gunman but it later came out that the shots could have been fired from multiple different points which indicates that there was more than one person involved in the assassination. Although the government has been denying this for many years now, there is new evidence coming out all the time to prove that this theory is actually real.
Have you ever wondered what really goes on in the world and if we are always being told the truth? There are so many conspiracy theories out there and we all need to open out minds to the possibility that things are not always what they seem. Next time your friend is talking about something that might seems strange, take the time to listen and try to understand. When you see an article about a conspiracy theory pop up on your social media, read it. If we all open our minds and educate ourselves in all areas, the power will be restored in the people and we will be unstoppable.
