A Plan That I Can Believe In by Mackenzie - March 2020 Scholarship Essay
It is my desire that the very words that I write today will directly become my life in the next ten years. One thing that I know for certain, is that nothing will work unless I do. I know too well that life is full of unexpected twists and turns. Maybe my plan will go just as I want it to or maybe I’ll get halfway through my ten-year plan and realize that this may not be how my life as I expected it. But for now, I can only dream of my unpredictable future and hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.
I think the first real step I can really do to start my future plan is to change myself for the better. All throughout high school, I never stepped out of my comfort zone. I stayed within my little bubble, always too scared to actually explore the opportunities around me. So the first step of my plan is to open up to the people around me and do more things that I would never do. In the summer of 2020, I will be taking an exam to become a Certified Administrative Medical Assistant. I knew that taking this test will open up new opportunities while I am in attending the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. This way while going to school, I can have a more stable job to pay for college and other costs. I hope this will give me a more behind the scenes look at a medical office more than any volunteer or job shadower can ever get.
After graduating with my Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing, I would like to get a job at a hospital. It would not be as intimate as I would like because at a small clinic or doctor’s office, I could build closer relationships with my coworkers. But working at a hospital will give me a chance to meet several types of nurses and learn about different specialties. Even now with my plan, I am not completely sure what specialty I want to go into. I want to explore my options and hopefully, I will be able to make my decision. By this time I should be in my late 20s and I would have worked long enough to save enough money to continue my education and get my Master’s degree. I doubt that I will have a family of my own, so I would have time to focus on both working a full-time job and earning my degree. After obtaining my Master’s degree, I would be willing to move anywhere for more job opportunities. Do this will help me further my career than if I were to stay in a small town.
With this plan, I am hoping that I will give my future some sort of structure. I will continue to work hard to achieve my dreams and to get a job that I am satisfied with. I believe that my plan will also be able to reassure me if something in my life were to change. This plan can always be altered to any new situations that may occur and it can always be improved over the next ten years, This plan instills a sense of confidence in me that I never knew I had. It encourages me and makes me believe that I can do this and that gives me the comfort I need to continue on.
