My Future by M. Guadalupe - March 2020 Scholarship Essay

I discovered my artistic ability upon entering high school, and have continued to cultivate it. It has pulled me out into a world where I can share and contribute to my community. Because I am so familiar with the empowerment of art, I want others to have that same opportunity. I have chosen to integrate my passion for art with my desire to teach other people. I am currently pursuing a path that leads me to a position in which I can teach others the benefits of exercising creativity.
Among all my abilities, talents, and skills, creativity is one that has become my most prized. I have the ability, one that has now become natural and instinctive, to transfer what my eyes see, by replicating, disfiguring, refining, accessorizing, emphasizing, and expressing it all onto a canvas. Creativity unveils beauty, even in something that does not even closely resemble it. It creates a world in which everything thought, emotion, and opinion can be expressed, which is why its become so alluring to me. Being able to express myself through drawings, paintings, or photographs, prevents me from keeping my mind closed. It allows my eyes to be open to fluidity. There is nothing I desire more than offering a space to growing minds, in which they are able to explore the power of art. My ten year plan includes studying art and art history, and eventually teaching in a classroom. I don't believe I would stop my studies at art, in fact I intend spend to spend as much time as I can pursuing academics.
