The Key to Success by Lynnette - September 2014 Scholarship Essay

I believe the most important skill needed to succeed in college is drive. One must have the drive to commit one hundred percent to the college experience. They must drive through the hard tests and classes to succeed. Every student is going to face struggles and hard times. It is easy to give up and drop-out, having the drive to push through these times is critical.

Drive is why a student enrolls in college. It is their drive that forces them to look at their lives and say,' I will not stand for having a job, I need a career. I will not hide and watch as this opportunity to better myself and my life, passes by." It is this force within us that allows us to face our biggest fears of college and not give in to them. It allows us to see beyond college and onto our future with a degree.

It is drive that allows us to take on the world. Most students today are returning students after years of absence from education. They are single parents, full-time workers and people who have little time and energy. Yet, they choose to enroll full-time in college. It is their drive that tells them to get a degree so maybe one day they won't have to work sixty hours a week or two jobs to make ends meet. Students know that having a degree gets you a better career, more money and more time at home.

In fact, it is drive that causes us to face every challenge in life. It does not matter what the challenge is. Drive causes us to ask out our first love, to graduate high school, to take the first job we ever had, to marry the love of our life and have children of our own. Drive is not only important to our success in college but to our success in all aspects of our lives.
