My Dream Non-Profit Organization by Lily - February 2020 Scholarship Essay

If I were to start a non-profit organization, I would start one to benefit minimum-wage workers. It would provide healthy, energy-giving food, comfortable shoes that help when standing for a long time, comfortable and warm work clothes for colder days, and single-use back pain relief pads.

My hope is that these items would be provided by administrative and managerial offices as a donation. This would give them an opportunity not only to give out of the kindness of their hearts, but also to remember that minimum wage workers still exist and are still living, breathing human beings that deserve to be treated well and known personally.

Minimum wage workers are oftentimes overlooked and brushed aside, assumed to be people that didn’t put an effort into their education in order to obtain a white-collar job. However, this isn’t always true; some are single moms simply trying to work several jobs to feed their kids, college students working to pay their tuition, or high schoolers attempting to pay their car insurance bills. And even if that were true, everybody deserves a chance at a good job and a good life, regardless of their ethnicity, religious beliefs, or background.

This non-profit organization would help minimum wage workers to feel seen and recognized and cared for in a world where they are so often overlooked and forgotten. A non-profit organization such as this could be a simple act of kindness that could possibly change someone’s life.
