Purposes of education by Lilliana - April 2015 Scholarship Essay
There are many different reasons why a K-12 education is important. Although Kindergarten seems like a place where kids color all day and have recess, there is actually a very intense learning process in effect. Not only are those children learning how to socialize with other children of their same age group, but they are also being taught kindliness, discipline, how to respect there fellow classmates, how to share with others, how to be honest, etc. All of these values are crucial to a child’s educational development as well as their development as a person
At some point in our lives we have all asked the same question: “what is the purpose of receiving an education?” Through these primary years of education, I often find school tedious and a misuse of my time. I wait in vain for the day that I graduate from high school, only then to go on to college. But only recently I learned that my schooling was what I made of it. When I put forth a full effort, I received the most out of my education, which was more than just factual knowledge. Receiving an education has an array of benefits, but it is up to us to find out what those benefits are.
In past cultures schooling was not done in a formal school but in “the community, the family, and the church”. Some cultures even believed that education was something that took a lifetime. Education has evolved through the centuries into what it is today.
Everyone has his or her own take on what they believe education is and should be. Your parents could think of it as a day care facility until you get to high school and then they might think of it as a place to earn a degree and soon move out. Your grandparents might think of it as a place where you go to learn things that you aren’t going to need in life because they never did.
