Orgainization is the Key by Lillian - September 2014 Scholarship Essay

Which sounds better... a student (high school or college) rummaging through a pile of papers that are stuck in a book or folder, or a student who can go directly to a tabbed folder and reach for that assignment that needs to be turned in? I think most would agree with the latter. Hence, I feel that organization is a key skill to have in order to succeed in college.

I know, cause I can speak from experience. I have graduated from a 4-year college all the while trying to maintain a very pronounced sense of organization. Many people would say this is being OCD (obsessive compulsive) or "nerdy," but knowing where that assignment is, or when it is due, is very important to a successful college career. As the example above shows, being organized is the most efficient way of going about your day-to-day. It allows you to keep up with your assignments easier and avoids that last minute rush to locate the right assignment. I could not have imagined going through my 4 years without being organized.

When is that assignment due? When is my exam? If a student is not organized these can be questions they ask themselves daily. A few ways to stay organized is by owning a planner. You can enter exactly what day that Biology exam is, and when you have to turn in the English Literature paper. There are always those ones out there that can manage and thrive with organization in their life, but for me and many others it is the most important key to success in college.
