Budgeting My Way Through College by Libby - July 2015 Scholarship Essay

Throughout life, parents continuously try to get their children to budget and practice with money. There are those times during a first job, perhaps, that parents try to make kids pay for their own things or maybe make them save up for something bigger that they want. They have to make the money last awhile! Someone close to me was recently laid off and is struggling with money. I can just see how hard it is and I do not ever want to struggle. Budgeting could play a factor in preventing this struggle from my life. It can help you to save up money, spend it wisely, and finally it just makes life a whole lot less stressful if you know how to budget. That is why learning to successfully budget is a goal I have that I want to accomplish before college graduation.

Saving money is crucial for life. College especially because many soon-to-be college students want new cars or an apartment. By budgeting money throughout high school and putting some aside little by little, it adds up and all of a sudden you have a new car! However, if that skill is never learned, it can be difficult to not be a compulsive spender and blow all the money you have earned.

By budgeting, there is always some money put aside for leisure activities if there is an effort to put it there. Saving money is not meant to hold somebody back from anything, but it is just a way to ensure that you do not go broke. Sure, there can be a day when you decide to go shopping and spend a significant amount of money but you always have to get back on track and remember to spend wisely; buy the things that are needed, not wanted.

As a current high school student, I scramble to find money to even buy coffee. If I had mastered the skill of budgeting, maybe I would have a little more money to spend. It makes life less stressful when you are not worrying about money constantly, especially at sixteen years old. I hope to create a stress-free life for myself, therefore I would love to learn how to budget properly. That would save me from unwanted stress in the future.

Being able to budget helps to save money, teaches you to spend wisely, and finally creates the life that is desired by many. Personally, I would be so happy if I could successfully budget by the time I graduate college. The rest of my life, financially, would be significantly easier. It may not seem like a big deal but it really is because I just want to steer clear from any money problems in the future and will take any precautions I can find.
