Moving Mountains by Leah - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Throughout a person’s lifetime, they will meet thousands of people. When I learned this fact, I immediately thought, “How do the people that I have met throughout my life see me?” This is the most important question that I have ever asked myself because at this moment, I decided that I wanted the people that I meet to see me as a leader. After I decided that I wanted to be a leader, everything else just fell into place. I talked to people differently, I showed myself in a different way, and I respected myself and others in a more genuine way. I believe that all of these things are characteristics that can help a person succeed in college. I believe that it will always be important to be a leader, and every great college needs one.
Being a leader in college means more than what it seems. A leader must do the things that I mentioned above while also doing their best to help others and keep themselves above water during a stressful time in their life. The way that a person talks to people is very important because, as I have learned, no one will take someone seriously if they don’t deliver their words in a way that is helpful. The way that people show themselves is also very important. To gain respect, a person must show themselves in a respectful way. This respect can then be earned and will be useful. Once the leader has the respect that they need, they can do more for the college that they are attending. Moving mountains is hard for one individual, but a group of individuals can move Everest with the right leadership.
