Like a Video Game by Lea - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

College success is graduating. Success is getting to the end, like in a video game. Success, in a video game, isn’t defined by what method the individual used or how long it took him or her, but by the fact that the final boss is laying dead on the ground. Leadership skills are not necessary for college success.

Leadership skills are necessary for outside of college. The skills are the weapons game designers put in the middle of nowhere. The people who have done their research know where to find them and know that the weapons will help in multi-player mode. A player doesn’t have to track down one of these to win the game, but when battling equipped friends, he or she will definitely lose. Leadership skills, like the cool, hidden weapons, can be found and developed within college years. The students that know to look for the opportunities will find them and when job interviews begin, these students will be using their special weapons.

A college student can party, drift, and skip through his or her years of learning and still end up with the same prize as the greatest leader among the graduating class. The difference between having leadership skills or not is the aftermath, when it’s time to leave single player mode and take on the rest of the world. Leadership skills are not necessary for college success, but in the real world they are the difference between failure and success.
