Student's Rights by Lauren - January 2021 Scholarship Essay

Education is the very soul of our economy, those who have higher education receive better job opportunities and are paid more whereas people without a college degree are viewed as lower than those who do have the degree when it comes to job interviews and opportunities. Unfortunately with the cost of college for most makes education a privilege when it should be a right. I believe there should be better opportunities for students who are not able to pay the high cost of tuition to get a good college education.
I know someone first hand who has to pay for college herself meaning she will undergo student loans and debt where she will be paying it off for most of her life so she can go into the criminal justice field and help those who need it. Her financial situation makes the decision hard for her, she can either go to a college that is affordable for her that does not have a criminal justice major or she can go to a school that does and goes into thousands of dollars of debt. I have attempted to help find her scholarship opportunities in order to help her get to the place she needs, I wish I could help many more people receive the education they deserve without creating debt they will be faced with for the rest of their lives.
Education should be valued and seen as important for everyone no matter the financial stability of someone's household. A good education should not be out of reach for so many people whose income is below the national average, these students including myself are the future of this world, we should be educating all to improve our world and move forward with innovation and technology. Our world could continue to greatness if a college education was available to more people raising the education level above what it is today.
