The "Write" Skill to Have by Lauren - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
As I walk into the first day of each of my classes every semester, I sit down and wait for the professor to arrive. Upon arrival the syllabus is handed out and the list of assignments for the year is went over. I, along with the other students in the classroom, cringe at the long paper assignments that we will eventually force ourselves to complete. As the professor sees the looks on our faces he or she gives us the same lecture that we hear every time we start a new class. Although it is something that is heard all of the time, and most college students would rather not accept it, our professors continue to tell us about how learning to write well is the most important thing you can learn in college.
Let's face it, with class sizes growing, the only way our professors really get to know us is through paper. They read the way we write and are able to learn a thing or two about us college students. Being able to write a well written paper that expresses one's ideas is something that is so extremely important in getting through college and even getting through life. Writing is an art form that is slowly disappearing, but it is something that most professors grade their students on the hardest. If one does not know how to write an exceptional paper, college could turn out to be a nightmare.
There are many wonderful things that can be done with writing. Sometimes, with writing that is marvelous enough, one could distract a professor from realizing the writer has not a clue what the topic is about. Portraying one's message to the professor is very important. This can be hard to do without the ability to write very well. Having writing skills at the college level could be the difference between an A or B on a paper, or even an A or B in the class. Not only does a well written paper increase one's chances of getting a better grade, but professors also appreciate those types of papers, or so I have been told by any professor giving the first day of class writing lecture.
Writing is an incredible tool that should be used to one's advantage while taking any college classes. Being able to write well and portray thoughts through one's writing is a skill that is so important throughout one's college years, and throughout one's life. Writing is a dying art form, and those who are still able to write in an extraordinary fashion are the one's who have the advantage. Writing is the skill most important to success in college and success in life.
