Is Leadership Important for College Success? by Kyle - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

I believe that leadership is absolutely important when concerning college success.

College is a time where students get to not only learn from subjects that help them for future careers, but also help them for the real world. Their relationships with professors and people will help them when dealing with other members of society outside of the classroom. Being a leader means being able to keep people on task, but also delegate when in a group. If there is a group assignment being done, you need to make sure everyone is on task and doing their part so you can all work towards a desired outcome: In this case, a good grade. As well as trusting your team mates to do parts of the assignment that you think they might do well on.

Being a leader also means putting your pride aside, and asking for help when you need it. Did you miss a class or a homework assignment? Or did a classmate? Have someone or yourself take notes to help out those around you. It means admitting to what you can't do on your own. A good leader knows how to lead people, but a great leader knows how to trust in others for success.

Leaders know how to guide and direct. And these skills are important to know for any atmosphere that you're in. The behavior and mindset of a leader need to start somewhere. And where better to start than College? Which is helping prepare young adults for the real world. One of the most important things to remember when being a leader though, is how to lead yourself. How will you deal with getting money for yourself? Finding out what career path you want to take? Finding people to help you with those types of choices? Going to Financial Aid and staying on top of loan statuses, or other statuses. Getting your books and getting to class on time. You have to effectively lead yourself through the journey as well if you want to be successful.
