Tech NO Logic More Like Tech YES Logic by kristina - January 2020 Scholarship Essay

Technology has made such an impact on my education. It has connected me to what society expects, given me a plethora of resources to learn more about any and everything, and lastly, it has given me opportunities.

Without my school-issued Chromebook, I would not have had the opportunity to complete my assignments like others. I have been docked points because I had turned in an English paper on looseleaf. Throughout high school, I did not have access to a computer at times. This was before the Chromebooks were issued. I would visit the library whenever I was able to and it was not sufficient. When the computers were taken, I would blindly try to find a book about my research topic. This worked sometimes but most of the time, this was time ineffective and the book did not go into enough detail of what I needed to find out. Today, everything is done online because it is most effective for most. Without having tech-savvy skills, I would be left behind. To even seek higher education, the most effective way is online. I submitted my college applications online. Although most did offer alternatives like mailing paper applications as always, the online application was reviewed faster. As a future accountant, most businesses expect their numbers to be stored online and for their employees to display that information in software like Excel. I would not be taken seriously in my future profession if I was unable to utilize software that is aimed to save time and thus, money. It is the same idea applied across our society.

Technology is an every single day tool that is referenced constantly. Throughout your day, how many times do you look at your phone? How many times do you google questions that you do not know the answer to? Almost every company without wifi for a day would lose revenue. With so many answers ready to be displayed from a tap or a click, it is hard to be ignorant these days. Regardless of what your question is, technology can give you an answer or at least enough information for you to form your own conclusion. Technology in the classroom is no different. A day without the cloud, I would not be able to get much done at all. A quality biography report for my history class without being able to access the internet could take days gathering data from books, newspapers, and other mediums. With the internet, I can track and acquire information in a matter of hours. I can get information in the most effective way which allows more material to be learned. Productivity is increased.

Technology in school has allowed me to branch out and connect with others. I even am able to apply to scholarships like this one to ease my school financial burdens. I have been financially independent since the age of 18. I was given the opportunity to dissect a human cadaver through an orthopedics center to explore if the medical career path was right for me in high school. Although I decided that career path is not for me from that experience, I would have never been able to go through anything like that without connections or the communications that coordinated that event. I was also able to submit my artwork to competitions across the nation. Never would I ever would I be able to have the opportunity to show my art pieces to respected critics. These online opportunities that the school has familiarized with their students have allowed me to experience what I thought would never be possible.

Technology in my school has shown me what business expects, given me unlimited resources to expand my knowledge, and opened doors for my future career path.
