Future New York Times bestselling Author by Kristina - May 2017 Scholarship Essay

The book that has best influenced my life is Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. When I answer questions such as this one, people usually raise an eyebrow, frown, or even scowl at me. However, Twilight really helped me realize my calling in life. Writing. I had always wanted to be a writer all my life, but people, especially family, insisted on other stable career paths for me. It was not until I finished Twilight at four o’clock in the morning that it hit me that I want to write a book for others to be immersed in just as I was reading about Bella and Edward.

Through the eloquence of provoking words, I would like to share my pieces with the world—to provide an escape for people. I find writing short stories extremely pleasurable, and writing my book brings me absolute joy. Through the eloquence of provoking words, I would like to share my pieces with the world—to provide an escape for people. (They say that one knows it’s his/her dream job when it doesn’t feel like work, and for me, writing never feels like work.) And although I may not be a doctor saving lives, a nurse caring for patients, or a lawyer defending innocent people, I know that I can do something with my talent. I can do what I love and have a significant impact on people’s/readers’ lives.

Furthermore, with acquired knowledge from college, I would like to publish fantasy fiction novels. However, college is very expensive, and student loans do not cover the full amount for me to attend Georgia State University. Tuition, housing, books, etc. add up to be quite the penny, and scholarships are the only way that I can afford my post-secondary education. Last year, I won a $5000 music scholarship which helped cover my spring semester (in addition to HOPE and the Pell Grant), but it was only a onetime scholarship. This Varsity Tutors scholarship award would help finance my education for college, specifically covering housing, and not only that, but it would also be an investment in my bright future as an author—future New York Times bestselling author.
