Let's Rewrite! by Krista - January 2014 Scholarship Essay

One would hope that being a junior in college I would have already found my best study techniques. Unfortunately that was not the case until just this past semester. I started the semester with my goals to just do better, but with no idea how I was going to make this happen.

After taking my first exam of the semester and earning only a B I was very disappointed. I did what I always did, so it should not have come as a surprise that I did not earn an A. I reread and reread all my notes and my professors, but still did not earn the A I so badly wanted.

When it came time for my second exam of the semester I decided to rewrite my notes based on the study guide I was given. This method at the time seemed tedious and long, but the payoff was amazing. After this longer study method I earned a 98 on my second exam. When it came time for my next exam I got busy with other activities and commitments and was unable to rewrite all of my notes, I only got half way through, and my exam grade suffered yet again.

From that point on and for this upcoming semester, I committed myself to studying by rewriting my notes, and every time I did that earned an A. The one thing I have to do for this type of study method is recognize how much material is going to be covered for the exams and other commitments I have around the same time. Rewriting notes is a lengthy process so I have to be sure to schedule in enough time to do so.

Even though I am a junior in college it is better late than never that I have found my best study method.
