Saved by No Bells by Kourtney - August 2019 Scholarship Essay

I vividly still hear the bells. I ate when the bell rang, walked when the bell rang, and left when the bell rang. My day was based off of 48 minute increments with just a few minutes to spare for travel time in the hallways. We were controlled by an inanimate object for years.Who cares I disliked math class and loved history class. I had to spend 48 minutes in each, no matter how I felt.
I would make the most of a gap year by having no bells. No time constraints, no limitations. I would do what I want, for as long as I want. No one would tell me how long I can spend on a topic. I could spend my time working in the field of my choice and learning on the topic of my choice. The freedom of a gap year would be phenomenal. Not having to use the restroom in between classes or getting a hall pass signed when I am not in sync with the bells sounds like a dream. For once I am in charge! There will be no containment from 7:30 to 2:30. I can watch day time TV for fun and not because I am home sick from school. I will not have to sneak snacks because I am assigned a late lunch and I will not have to concentrate on chemistry lab before the sun is fully in the sky.
A gap year would let me fill my day with what I want, for the first time ever. I could explore the world around me and see what really tugs at my heart. I would see what life outside of school is like and try to picture how I fit into it.
College does not have bells, but it stills has time requirements. A gap year would let me sample the freedom that comes after school. The joy of that freedom would motivate me to get through college so I can end up where I want. I want somewhere with no bells.
