Advice For My Teacher by Khaylie - January 2015 Scholarship Essay

If I could give my teacher one piece of advice to help me learn, I would tell them to be more aware of student activity in their classroom. Most of the teachers that I have are not aware that almost half of their class is not paying attention to what they are teaching. Students are always getting distracted, and teachers need to be more aware of that.

The prime cause of distraction is students' phones. There are rules proclaiming that phones are contraband, but teachers essentially don't enforce this rule. It really is disturbing that some teachers don’t care about students' learning. After all, what are teachers for? They are supposed to teach and make sure his/ her student is absorbing their material.

Personally, I love learning. When I'm in a class and a teacher is talking, I give them my full attention. But, not everyone is like me. There is always one student or a group of students that absolutely cannot keep still or quiet. Because these students have no consideration for others, it gets hard to concentrate and learn. A teacher being unaware and not enforcing the rules interferes with the learning of students who are determined to succeed.
