Discuss one piece of advice you would give to an incoming high school freshman by Keshunia - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

What incoming high school freshmen need to do is clear their thoughts and presumptions of what high schools are like. High school is not like the junior high; it is similar yet different. My advice for incoming freshmen is to be focused, to take advantage of all opportunities, and to enjoy the four years of being here.
High school is a time for memories and fun, but also a time to strive to do your best in the process. Incoming ninth graders need to know that even though it may be your first year, it is also a crucial year to get your GPA as high as it can possibly go. So basically, be focused and make sure you achieve good grades because your GPA is like a credit score; one bad payment can mess up your score for the rest of your life, well in this situation, damage your GPA. Although, you never know, you could be valedictorian of your class by this advice alone.

There are lots of opportunities in high school such as, joining clubs, re-teaching/retesting (some schools may apply), applying for scholarships, making new friends, being a part of student council, and more. You should take advantage of all the opportunities your school may offer that can benefit you financially, academically, and socially. If you are considering college, take this advice. It will help you out tremendously.

High school will be one of the most precious times of your life. You will be here for four years, so enjoy it. Make new friends, go to parties, and talk to upperclassmen. Do not just stick with your own class. High school will be something you will always remember, so live it up! You should never have to regret not having fun in your few years here. Do not be the dull person you think you might become. Have fun with your few years here, and never regret anything you do. Live your life to the fullest and show the world what you are made of. Prove to yourself that you can achieve happiness while being in high school. You only get one chance, one opportunity like this, so make it the most extravagant time of your life and in that moment - be you, stay true, and live free.

There is a lot of advice for incoming freshmen, but these are just a few. This is just another fascinating experience in the journey of days. You may think you cannot succeed. Some days you might even question what are you doing and why are you here. Teachers will push your buttons, fellow students will get on your nerves, and you will just want to drop out at times; what you need to know and understand is that all of these things are temporary. It will be all worth it in the end, when you are walking on that stage, after your name has been called, and the principal hands you your high school diploma. You will walk off that stage with your head held high and pride and joy in your eyes knowing that you have survived and made it through these tiring, stressful, but memorable and enjoyable, four years. With this advice alone, you will achieve all of these things. As long as you are staying focused, taking advantage of all opportunities, and enjoying your four years of high school, then you will be successful.
