Knowledge - It's a Forever Thing by Kelsey - September 2021 Scholarship Essay

Like most kids, I dreaded getting up early, going to class, and sit through a boring lecture of information I did not care to learn. I got my high school diploma and thought "Here we go again, I am going to college to repeat the same boring lectures."

My first class of college, Intro to Bio, the teacher was struggling to figure out how to work technology, taking attendance, and gave the same introduction we hear on the first day of classes. But this time, it was different. She began to tell her story as a student, the one who never wanted to study, fell asleep in class, and put bare minimum effort.

She continues to say "knowledge is something that will stick with you forever. You can walk into a store, baseball game, or any location possible and learn something new. It is the one thing that cannot be taken from you." I do not know what struck me so much about that phrase but it changed my perspective on school. I began to find the joy in learning new things.

Being challenged with school is normal, but once you actually take a step into the joy of learning, your life will be changed forever.
