Describe a time when you failed at something, and how you were able to take that lesson and improve. by kehinde - February 2017 Scholarship Essay

Failure according to Merriam-Webster is a lack of success or adequacy. Humans are bound to fail once at least once in a life-time, and it's our choice to either learn from the lesson or let it repeat itself. Sometimes, failure can be damaging to a person's mental health, it can lead to 'fear of failure'.
My single experience of failure occurred shortly after my high school graduation, I was born in Nigeria and completed my high school education in Nigeria. I graduated at the age of 16 and decided to take the SAT's to be eligible to apply to college in the United States. I studied non-stop for the test every day for 3 months starting July, the test was in October. I really thought I did my best, at the end of the exam I was really excited and optimistic about the results.
By the time the results came out, it was November already. when I saw, my results I was devastated and hopeless, I felt like a failure, and it almost led to depression. But because of my belief in God I got back up on my feet and decided to take the tests again and this time I was going to be extremely studious in order to pass the SATs in flying colors. Fast-forward to January, after a month of extreme studying I took the test and did much better than I did the first time.
I made myself and my family proud, I got accepted into all the universities I applied to and decided to go to Texas southern university because it was the most affordable. I am happy I had that experience, it shaped me to become the young lady I am today, I have never gone through anything so devastating enough for me to question my purpose in life. I used to be arrogant and self-conceited, but then I realized nobody is perfect and failing in life is not actually a bad thing, in fact it is a good thing depend on the way you respond to that failure in the sense that the way you pick yourself back up after you fail. Always remember, persistence is key.
