Pitties&Purrs by Kaylen - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

The world has become a crazy place. Someone needs to create a change and well, I am the girl for it. My name is Kaylen Zayas, and I foster for "Pitties & Purrs" a non-profit organization centered in Baltimore. Fostering has had a great impact on my life and has changed my view on the life I live. I see the parts of life not everyone is open to seeing, I see the abuse people put animals through as well as the neglect and it only encourages me to save more and more lives. This has impacted me to make as big of a change as possible and has made me become more selfless. When it comes to these dogs, I put them before anything else and will do anything to give them a better chance at life. Seeing the different situations these dogs come from and seeing the fear people have of these breeds makes me only wanna try harder to educate everyone and bring awareness that it is not the breed rather how you raise them. A big impact it has had on me would be helping me figure out the career path to go into. Now I am steering towards being a Veterinarian because I just wanna help these animals recover and receive better lives as well as mend the brokenness they face.I have fostered over 33 dogs within for years ranging from 3 weeks old to 7 years old. Fostering as taught me not only to never judge a book by its cover but to always have an open mind and a big heart. I have learned to care for every animal no matter the situation and no matter where they had come from previously, as well as I have learned that all it takes is ONE person to make an impact and create a big impact on their lives.
