The Purpose of Education by Kaylee - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

The main purpose of education is to provide students and individuals with the proper skills to be successful in life. Basic life skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, communicating, and collaborating can all be learning and developed while in the classroom. Education also allows students to broaden their horizons and expand their thinking skills or to be able to think critically about situations. Somethings such as history and culture are important for people to learn because citizens should learn about their heritage and where they came from in order to gain a better understanding of themselves and provide a background. Education teaches individuals a sense of discipline and self-motivation.

Eventually, the goal of education is to teach students to ask quality questions and ultimately be able to find an answer. It is not necessarily to what to think but rather how to think. Education is not meant to make you think a certain way or to become a democrat, republican, feminist, or activist but allows you to see the world in a different light and give you the opportunity to interpret the world in any way you would like.

The purpose of an educational institution, however, is to provide a safe environment for students to make mistakes in order to learn from them.

However, not all learning takes place in the classroom. People can learn new things that can benefit them later on in life by just going through common day to day situations. Education builds the foundation for the future.
