An Incoming Freshman's Key to Success by Kayla - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

Entering high school for the first time can indeed be nerve-racking, or even petrifying for some. You’re starting the last four years of your regular school life while you have no idea what to expect. This is your time to make everything count; impress colleges with good grades, get involved and prepare for the real world. However, it can be quite challenging to do so on your own. One piece of advice that I would give to an incoming high school freshman, is to take advantage of every opportunity provided.

Your time in high school can be a great experience, if you choose to make it one. It all starts with clubs, join as many as you can. Clubs are a great way to meet new people just like you and really get you involved in what you are interested in. This will look great on college applications and could even set up a future job opportunity for you. One thing that’s really important is having no regrets. Although clubs are a great way to make the most out of your school experience, grades are the most important- I cannot stress this enough. If you are given the chance to double up on classes or take some college courses, do it! This could help you save on your college tuition in the future and allow you to avoid taking those classes in college, so then you can focus more on your major. Higher education is expense, so any possible way you can reduce this cost, you should do. Opportunities given to you in high school, are your key to success.

Whatever you choose to do, take high school seriously and do not goof off. Making the most out of your time and making excellent grades is what you should really focus on. Taking advantage of every opportunity is crucial in being successful in not only high school, but your future life.
