The Positive Affects of Technology in the Classroom by Katie - January 2020 Scholarship Essay

There are many different ways on how technology has positively affected every student’s experience in the classroom. Through my own experience of going to a school that required students to use their own Ipads at school, I was motivated to learn. I was excited that I got to use my Ipad to learn and do schoolwork. Studies have shown that when students have access to technology while at school, they become more motivated and have higher levels of self esteem. One of the more obvious benefits of using technology, such as laptops and tablets in school, is the accessibility to learning new topics and becoming more knowledgeable. By having internet access, you can quickly look up definitions, find interactive learning games, and find additional information on a topic, all in a matter of minutes. These strategies are much quicker than looking through an encyclopedia, or searching the library for a single book on a specific topic.
Through using interactive learning games on the internet, students are obliged to become for engaged in the activity. These technologies can also help students group projects, and how they interact with each other, they have more opportunities to work together and for their ideas to be heard and shown. By using technology in schools, and teaching students how to use all these products and websites, they are provided with skills that they will need at future jobs.
Although there are some negative effects of technology in classrooms and students, the positives outweigh the negatives in this case. Students are becoming more educated, students are becoming more prepared for future jobs, and students are becoming more engaged and interactive in the classroom.
