Everything We Do Has An Effect. by Katherine - August 2013 Scholarship Essay

As a freshman in college in a class titled Political History of WW2, I realized that everything I was learning was connected. The 1900’s Art History class I had just came from studied how people were experiencing this war in pop culture and explained it tangibly on canvas with brush strokes. The writing class earlier that week took an excerpt from a book printed during the war that showed me another form of communication; often connecting people further and carrying messages of change.  Still yet, Psychology encouraged me to look deeper into why people as individuals were experiencing the world around them in their own minds. Sociology opened up a perspective based on macro systems and provided answers for why groups of that region held norms, and how those deep beliefs led to forming culture.  I realized that everything and everyone is connected in some way. These connections have power in where we have been, where we are at today, and were we are headed. This has made not only my academic process more meaningful, but my everyday life. There are lessons in everything we do, and everything we do will have an effect whether great or small.
