Standing Up Against Bullying & Sexual Harassment by Katherine - November 2019 Scholarship Essay
I believe I positively impacted my high school and it's student body by standing up against bullying. There was a lot of bullying where I went to high school. There probably still is. I was one of the many people that got pushed around and made fun of so I knew I had to stop other people from getting bullied. Therefore, I became the one who stood up against the bullies. If someone was being made fun of I confronted the bully and told them they had to stop then I reported it to the school. If I knew someone was getting bullied and was too scared to say anything I reported it. While reporting didn't usually do anything, the victim at least felt better afterwards. I made sure they were okay and that they didn't see themself in a negative way because someone said or did something awful to them. I especially stood against sexual harassment in my high school, which I also consider a form of bullying. We had a big problem with sexual harassment and the school rarely did anything about it. It was just brushed to the side. So whenever I heard of something like that happening and saw something like that happening, I reported it as much as I could until the school finally took it seriously. I even wrote a research narrative essay about it including some of my experiences with sexual harassment at the school to bring awareness to it. I also wrote it so everyone else going through the same thing as me would know they weren't alone. That they always had someone who understands and was willing to stand up for them. So yes, I wasn't the best academically in high school. But I did positively impact my high school and its student body before I left by being the girl who defends everyone from bullies and stands against sexual harassment.
