University Today Career Tomorrow by Katelyn - March 2015 Scholarship Essay

A leader is one who directs others in the way they should go. They lead by example with grace, understanding, generosity and wisdom. One should exemplify humble servitude, moral character and academic excellence. A leader should have a good reputation, be dependable and trustworthy. A leader gives of themselves first and faithfully serves no matter the circumstances. Leadership positions produce skills like: responsibility, work ethic, presentation skills, and working closely with others. Leadership also brings weakness into light. A leader is able to notice and work through flaws otherwise unrevealed.

Leadership skills are necessary for every college student to succeed. Not every student will be a leader of many, but each is a leader of their own lives. Leaders are charismatic, and confident. They gain the flowing of many. However, great leaders work from the sidelines, backstage or front lines, along side their peers. A leader takes responsibility without being asked. They are dedicated, hardworking and trustworthy. Each of these leadership skills is expected of university students in their studies. Professors provide the information, but only grade on the willing participation of the student. A leader is able to prioritize. Students juggling multiple course loads do the same. Each course expects first priority. One can easily be overwhelmed by the demanding attributes of university. Without prioritizing, successful semesters are impossible. Leaders are able to balance multiple responsibilities effectively. Students are required to juggle 12+ hours of credit a semester, campus involvement, community service and, often, part times jobs.

Skills that make successful leaders are necessary for university students. Without such skills, university can be overwhelming and result in withdrawal. The skills sought after in leadership are also found in a university student. A leader uses their skills to be fruitful and lead by example. A university student uses their skills to be fruitful in course load and obtain an integral education. That education can be used post graduation in career leadership positions. Much is expected of university students; much is expected of leaders.
