Have I positively impacted my high school and student body by Kasondra - November 2019 Scholarship Essay
My answer to the questions is: I don't know if I have. I graduated almost 15 years ago. I am now married with young children and ironically I think about high school often. I think about all the things I cared so much about that really didn't matter. It didn't matter what people thought of me, it didn't matter that I wasn't on prom court, it didn't matter if I had a boyfriend and it didn't matter if my team went to state in sports again. When I was in high school I cared too much about things that did not matter and I did not care enough about the things that do. I look back and ask myself if I was nice enough to the kid no one talked to, did I make someone feel better about themselves, would people now be happy that they knew me in high school? That is what matters in high school and in life. When I was in high school I was captain of my cross country and track team, I was a leader in FCA (fellowship of Christian athletes) and I was a band leader as well. I feel there were areas that I represented my school well, I just hope that I did enough to show others appreciation and gratitude. To be completely honest, I was pretty arrogant in high school. I though way more of myself than I should have and I wish I would have spent more time caring about other people than myself. This is what I want to teach my girls as they grow up. I will teach them about what really matters in high school and what matters in life. I will teach them to be a positive influence on others and be a light in a dark world. I am not sure if I made a positive impact on others, but I will raise my girls in a way that I know they will be.
