Leadership Skills In College by Kasadee - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Lots of studies have been done on what skills help students to succeed in college. One of the most essential skills is for the students to have leadership skills. Leadership skills are necessary for college success. College students need the essential leadership skills of organization, time management, leading groups, and knowing how to handle conflicts.
College students do not have one teacher every day all day long they have multiple teachers who give out multiple homework assignments. If a student lacks the leadership skill of organization the student will surly forget to study for a test or not do a project or homework assignment.
In college, students do not have their parents or guardians there telling them to do their homework, get to bed on time, or go to class. For this reason college students need to have the leadership skill of knowing how to manage their time wisely. If a student does not make time to do their homework, sleep, relax, and other essential things, the student will fall behind and their grades will suffer possibly to the point of the student having to drop out of college.
College students are required to do group work and most the time it is not an easy art project like in elementary school. With out the ability of at least one of the students in the group to be a leader and take control of the group the project will surly never get done or it will end up that one person does the who project and the rest of the group suffers from not knowing the material. If all the students in the group are great leaders and they all work well together group projects can be fun and make a normally painful, awful project easy and fun to do which makes college that much more fun and easier.
College is not all roses and butterflies. There are times where conflicts arise and it is up to the student to handle the situation. Conflicts will arise in groups, between roommates or even just in an everyday casual conversation. The leadership skill of being able to solve such conflicts will help save the student a lot of time and drama while going to college.
Leadership skills are essential for college success. A few of the main leadership skills that are essential are organization, time management, leading groups, and conflict resolution. Organization will help students to not forget about that huge group project due Monday morning. Time management will help them get enough study time and sleep for that group project. Being able to lead the group will help the student so that they do not have to do the project all on their own. And being able to solve conflicts will help them so that everyone in their group gets along.
