Door of Opportunity by Karli - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
From the time we’re young, we’re indoctrinated with the idea that education is important, and that striving to learn all that we can is well worth the sacrifice. Most of us grow up with the assumption and expectation that we will go to college after graduating high school, pursue a degree, get hired into a well-paying career, and pass the same lessons we learned on to our children. College gets a lot of emphasis because it’s an important step in leading a successful and happy life. I think that attending college is important because it opens doors of opportunity, allows for increased satisfaction, and is well-worth the cost of attendance.
College is an amazing way to attain new opportunities and achieve new goals. For most people, college is an experience unlike any they’ve ever had. New people, living arrangements, stresses, and excitements all contribute to an ever-growing network of knowledge. While attending, college allows you to try new things and discover what you want to do for the rest of your life. Additionally, once you’ve left college, the degree that you hold makes so many more things available to you. Those who hold a degree have more and better employment opportunities than people who only have a high school diploma. College is so important to go to, because without it, you’re shutting yourself out of opportunities and skills that you could be obtaining.
Attending college also allows for increased satisfaction. At least for me, when I’m learning new things, challenging myself, and discovering who I want to become, I’m happier and more driven to succeed. College is a path to increased learning and education that can help motivate you to improve your life. Education in general is something that should never stop, because the more you’re learning, the more rounded of a person you become. So, attending college after high school is an amazing avenue to increase your abilities and understanding of the world.
A lot of people don’t attend college because expenses are expensive. Tuition alone can cost a fortune, and it’s easy to see why people feel that college isn’t worth their time and money. However, the benefits that come from attending college definitely outweigh the costs. Attending college allows you to qualify for higher paying jobs and go places you couldn’t otherwise go. The better you do in college, the less it costs you, as most colleges are eager to give scholarships for performance and ability. College is expensive, but the things that you learn and the jobs that you can enter make the cost well worth it.
College is a major step in life, and the considerations involved are different for every person. However, it is super important to attend college because it allows you to try new things, qualify for better jobs, and find increased satisfaction and happiness in the things that you’re able to do.
