6 year old me and the future by Karl - June 2017 Scholarship Essay

When I was six years old my family was constantly moving due to my father's military status. I was typically the new kid in school where I was soft spoken and kept to myself. I remember spending most of my time by myself enveloped in a drawing or attempting to solve a rubik’s cube where I would repeatedly fail but never stop trying. I had no clear direction other than liking puzzles and exploring and growing up I was never told I had to pursue any specific path. The decision was mine and mine only. It was a freeing but also very frightening time.
As High school came and went I experimented with different fields trying to find my passion. In my search I took classes from healthcare to rapid prototyping and engineering of which I thoroughly enjoyed but I couldn't envision continuing for the rest of my life. So the search continued even though the start of community college where I began to get anxious about my future and what part I played in it. So at the beginning of freshman year I had to take a long hard look at myself and determine what I truly desired in life and I found that though though the paths in high school that did not lead to anything directly they pointed me in the right direction. Through exploring health care I found I wanted to help those who were in need and through engineering I enjoyed structure and creation. Through those experiences I determined the best path for me to pursue would be entrepreneurship where I could help others while still having the structure that I desired.
So I set out to fully enveloping myself into the world of entrepreneurship by joining the business club on campus and participating in business events in my area. I became driven by the passionate entrepreneurs I saw around me so invested in their startups that I had to become apart of it. Later that year becoming the president of the business club where I would invite entrepreneurs who were in the position of running their own business to bring insight into the network of hungry college students. From where I am today to my six year self I could not imagine how far i’ve come while still being free to solve my own puzzles and starting my own business.
