Organization(s) I am apart of by Karen - December 2019 Scholarship Essay

I am in 3 different organizations. AVID, Ophelia and PyR. AVID stands for Advancement Via Individual Determination. AVID is a college preparatory course that can be taken from middle school to high school. AVID has impacted me for the better. I have been in AVID since the 6th grade. I did not think I was capable of having good grades and getting a degree once I got older. I did not know what I wanted to be. By the time of my sophomore year, I had to do a ̈My dream Job ̈ presentation. That enforced me to research a career. I had a career in mind, I researched it and fell in love with that job. I finally knew what I wanted to do after high school, and the best part is I already knew what was needed, I had my 4 year plan for college ready. AVID has helped me in a lot of things, high school, grades,graduation, preparing for college and scholarship opportunities. If it wasn't for AVID I wouldn't be worrying about my grades and college.

Another organization that has helped me was Ophelia. Ophelia is an organization project that helps girls from 8th-12th grade to contribute to their society. Ophelia has helped me break out of my shell. I am not as shy as I used to be, I am more confident and have my future plan and I thank my mentor and my Ophelia community.

I am in a group called Prevencion y Rescate (prevent and rescue) that helps families in need, whether it is out of their addictions (drugs, alcohol) depression or homeless. I am a group leader of the youth group for teenagers (ages 13-17). I help teenagers with any problems that they have. PyR has taught me to have great leadership and communication skills.
