The Scope of Future Education by Kamryn - May 2020 Scholarship Essay

Throughout the world, education is a big part of each individual and here in the United States, education is extremely important. Education in the United States is what forms the well-being of many Americans. Education has shaped us to who we are today and it will continue to shape many Americans in years to come. In 50 years, education will definitely have a different twist on it but it will be similar to what it is now.

As of right now, education plays a big part in each individual's life. Children start going to preschool at 4 and we continue going to school until we are at least out of high school. Some Americans may choose to continue their education in college and get a degree to find a supporting job. In years to come, education will be formed and presented differently in many ways. In 50 years, technology will be even more advanced than it already is, teachers may slowly start to decrease because of the new technology. With teacher's salaries already slowly starting to decrease, many people coming out of college are not going to want to get a teaching degree.

During a time like right now, while our country is suffering a large pandemic, we have shifted to virtual learning and it has forced many school districts to alter how they are teaching their students the information that they feel is necessary. After the pandemic is over, this may force many school districts to realize that online learning is possible. In 50 years, some schools may start to offer more online courses and not as many face-to-face courses, while other schools may eliminate some of the online courses because they saw how many students struggled during the pandemic. The world we live in today is very opinionated and schools really use the information that they receive from parents and students to run the school district. Many schools will probably start handing out either Ipads or chromebooks for their students to keep during the school year so the school district never has to worry about students having a resource to continue their online learning at home. Schools may even start to shift some of their learning to online learning in hopes that it will benefit the students in the long run.

Another thing to consider when we think about the future and what education will look like in 50 years is the amount of money that will not be used because schools don't have to keep a building up and running. School districts get a certain amount of money for each student that they educate. They then use this money to make the school a better place for the staff and the students. With this being said, the schools will no longer need to get as much money for the school building and the fees that were being paid before. School events may be a little bit different also such as sporting events, school dances, school assemblies. While sporting events may still occur, the school assemblies may be a virtual meeting on the new technology of Zoom. Many teachers around the country are utilizing Zoom video conferencing to communicate with their colleagues and students to make sure that everyone is doing well and that the students are understanding what the teacher is trying to teach. The Zoom chats are the new face-to-face learning and it is the closest thing we have to being in person and learning in a classroom.

In 50 years, schools will definitely be different and there are a lot of things to consider when we think about the future. Changing the way education is provided will also alter many other lifestyles in the United States. If the United States were to switch over to virtual learning in some communities, then there would need to be more stay-at-home moms because there will be students who are still too young to be staying at home all alone. The younger generation would be the ones that would be influenced by the virtual learning the most. The K-6 audience will still need the teacher interaction and face-to-face learning and we have learned this from many surveys and studies that have been filled out by many of the parents with children in that age group. Many parents are having to become their own kid's teacher and for many it is a struggle.
