Do You Believe Attending College is Important? Why or Why not? by Kalyn - April 2020 Scholarship Essay
I do believe that attending college is important. I was blessed to be raised by a single mother. She was and is strong and full of courage. There were times that we did not have money, but my mom would struggle and do without so that I could have. My mom would continuously remind me that an education would not make me rich but she reminded me that it was an important step to obtain security. No one can can steal an education. My mother was 42 when she completed her college education.
I also believe that college is not an option for me. I believe it is a mandate for my life. I want to do great things and make a difference in the world that we live in. Once I get my degree in nursing, I want to be a traveling nurse. I want to travel domestically and internationally working as a traveling nurse. Once I start a family of my own, I want to open a home health agency and give back to the community that gave to me. I want to help other young people with scholarships and opportunities to better themselves. I want to be able to create jobs in the community that I will reside in.
College may not be important to everyone, but everyone is not my concern at this time of my life. I am trying to focus on what is important to me. The answer to the question is attending college important? Why or Why not? The answer for me is yes! The goal and dreams that I want to accomplish requires a college education. It requires me to learn from people that have already accomplished what I want to accomplish. It requires me to create self discipline and apply what I learn during my college years.
I want to accomplish this task for my mother. I want her to see that the sacrifice that she made for me-made it to where I can accomplish the goals that I have early in life and not have to wait until I am older like my mother did. I want her to know that because I saw her obtaining her dreams and goals while raising three children - it makes me want to accomplish my goals and dreams so that I can also set an excellent example to the children that I will have later in my life.
College is not a requirement for everyone. College is not important to everyone. But college is a requirement for my life. It will give me the stepping stones that I need to accomplish the American Dream.
