My 10-Year Career Plan by Kaitlin - March 2020 Scholarship Essay

The most common question that I am asked as a senior is, "What are your plans for after high school?" I have actually had my plan ever since my freshman year of high school. I was filling out a career packet for my Health class. and it has the same career written down that I still aspire to strive for to this day. My plan is to become a Physical Therapist. This career is very significant to me because it would mean that I get to help people every single day, as a job! Everybody always says that if you truly love your job, then it won't feel like an actual job. This is what I think being a physical therapist would be like for me.
About a year ago, I had knee surgery and I had to go through the whole physical therapy process. This just heightened my interest in the career. So, my plan starts with enrolling and going to college.
I plan to attend MSUM this fall for my freshman year of college. I am going to major in Exercise Science, because there is no "technical" physical therapy major at MSUM. However, if I pursue the Exercise Science major, then I can reach the requirements to eventually pursue this career. I will be striving for my Bachelor's degree. There are a lot of steps to becoming a Physical Therapist. After achieving my Bachelor's degree, I will go on to complete my Doctorate of Physical Therapy. Then, I take the National Licensure Exam, and finally, I will obtain a state license. This is a lot of steps to accomplish, but I have faith that I will get through it.
After completing all of the necessary steps, I will attempt to find a job opportunity for a Physical Therapy position around the West Fargo area. I would like to stay in this community because it is my hometown and it would mean a lot to me to be able to stay here and be successful. I hope to accomplish all of this within 10 years, so that I will have reached my goal of being in this career field by the ten year mark. College is the most crucial part of this whole process, so that is why I need to pursue my major at MSUM. Thank you for reading!
