Education, Life's Valuable Tool by Justin - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

A grade school education can only teach you so much. From kindergarten to senior year you retain the basic life skills and information that will be the foundation for your future. Surely a college education isn’t ideal for everyone as there are diverse options available to appeal to countless groups. Regardless of the path we choose, we will never stop receiving an education because the lessons we learn throughout life and our activities are the only way we will grow as individuals.

Education is often defined as “an enlightening experience”, in other words, with every experience we face we gain greater knowledge. No one is born with complete understanding on how the aspects of the world functions, everything we know now has been taught to us. Without an education, we would not be able to function properly and we would be lost. For example, if you want a dog to be obedient and learn tricks, you have to patiently teach it to do so, otherwise it would be clueless behavioral wise. Although I dislike the idea of comparing the human race to a domesticated animal, it would be impossible to deny the similarities concerning the way we both learn.

Furthermore, we need to be educated in order to shape our household and the generations that follow afterwards. As leaders of our generation, we need to be prepared to receive every ounce of knowledge available within our reach. There are so many concepts out there that we have yet become familiar with or thought to challenge. It is our job to always remain teachable in order to relay the information onto others so that they too can prosper as an individual. The lessons we learn on our own or through others can prevent us from making avoidable mistakes and take us further than we’ve ever dreamed.

Overall, there will always be a need for an education because it is the set tool that will take us far in life. The purpose of an education is to instill the valuable ideas within us that would otherwise have been forgotten or ignored. If we ever hope to rise to a greater position and set the foundation for those following afterwards, we have to accept the great responsibility of receiving the most out of an education.
