The importance of Education by Julissa - March 2017 Scholarship Essay
If I were to give a speech to a school-wide audience, the topic I would choose is education. Education is important because it allows people to get more knowledge on the topics they’re interested in. Education also sparks new interests within people and it allows them to see the world with a new perspective. There are so many reasons why education is held highly worldwide and the most important reason is that it allows people to move on the path to success. Even, if students do not receive their education from school, they will receive it from somewhere else and use that knowledge to their advantage. Education teaches us useful skills such as: handling business, learning new languages and cultures, and using math to pay off bills or to save your money wisely.
Education is important because it connects people together. Education connects people together because they allow us to use our knowledge to improve others lives or to build relationships with other people around the world. We use the knowledge we learned about cultures and languages to build relationships with other countries for the benefit of ours. The biggest positive outcome of education is that it makes us progress as a society.
Though, there are a lot of positive effects of education, there is also the negatives. An example is budget cuts on our education department. When budget cuts occur within the education system, teachers are paid less or fired, textbooks cannot be provided, and students may not receive the quality education they deserve simply because their school could not afford it. There is also the fact that students may be pressured a lot because they may not be getting the grades that satisfy their parents. Which is why I believe that we should focus on fixing our education system. In my opinion, I believe more schools should provide tutoring sessions that are flexible for student’s schedules, therapeutic sessions for students who are mentally stressed because of the pressure they are facing, and focusing on fixing budget cuts so the student’s education is not severely affected.
Our education system has multiple flaws, which can affect the future of our children and their path to success. One of those flaws being, that the education system may be teaching role learning instead of analytical and critical thinking skills. Students are always memorizing formulas and answers, some may graduate with high grades and honors. However, no one ever asks the most important question anymore: do they remember anything they learned from school? Students are always cramming information inside their heads, but are they actually learning? I believe that simply memorizing materials isn’t enough for our student’s education. I think there should be better ways to improve their learning environment and allow them to enjoy learning. I want our governments to focus on education because they depend on our children’s futures and I want each and every single student to have good opportunities for success.
Another problem with education is college tuition. Some students may want to attend college, but might not have the sufficient funds for it. This takes away their opportunity to bring their family out of poverty and become successful. And those who actually are in college or graduate are having a hard time paying back their student loans. Students who have been in college and are close to graduating may not be able to receive their degree; because they have been kicked out for not having enough money to pay off for the school year’s tuition and fees. I want students who desire higher education and who desire knowledge to receive the education they seek. Students deserve to get the education, they want and I don’t think schools should charge students for wanting to learn. After all, curiosity is part of human nature and part of our genetic makeup, it’s only fair that they pursue knowledge to receive the valuable information they seek.
Education is important because it is our way of life. It gives us opportunities that we did not have earlier on in life. Education connects people and makes us more civil. I believe that everyone should get the knowledge they desire without any restrictions because after all curiosity demands to be fed. Education would be my speech topic towards students because it plays a huge role in life and it should be valued. And I want my speech to open the eyes of those who do not notice the flaws within our education system and to inform them that action must be taken to fix our system. I believe that our education system should be fixed to suit every student’s learning environment, to include necessary accommodations, and financial aid needs met. I hope in the future everyone will receive the education they deserve or start to realize the importance of receiving an education.
