The Master Key for Freshman Year by Josiah - November 2014 Scholarship Essay

It can be tough. The transition from middle school to high school that is. It can be a shock to a student, but fortunately, Freshman year can be a wonderful time. There are many factors that will help a student be successful in their first year of high school but I believe that there is one overarching theme of these factors: take it seriously.
I believe that if a student takes their senior year seriously, it will set the tone for the rest of their high school experience. If they apply themselves and do their best their Freshman year, it will most likely make the next three years much easier. However, if they tend to goof off, procrastinate, be unorganized, and have an apathetic attitude during their first year, it can make the rest of their high school career almost unbearable.
If they take organization seriously, their grades will be just fine. Organization will help the student know what assignments to do and when to do them. The biggest reason that I have seen that students' grades falter is because they do not turn in assignments on time or at all. Organization can help clean up that issue.
If they take their grades seriously, the next three years will be just fine. F's are huge. They can damage the next three years tremendously. Failed classes Freshman year mean classes and credits have to be made up later on. This in turn means online classes or even just a larger workload than the student was planning on. This means there is less time for work, play, or even extracurricular activities. This can mean almost no fun and can make high school almost unbearable.
If a student takes their Freshman year seriously, it can mean prosperity and a fun rest of their high school career. But, if they mess around their Freshman year, it can mean a lot of misery in the upcoming years. So Freshmen, take it seriously!
