Modern technology has revolutionized nearly every part of the developed world. In one day, the average person performs a broad array of tasks that would be unthinkable merely fifty or even twenty-five years ago. A person could, for instance, order a breakfast sandwich from an in-store kiosk, drive their electric car to work, order a gift online, chat with relatives in a video call, and relax in the evening by watching online videos on their smart television all within a 24-hour period. The educational aspect of culture has been similarly and dramatically changed by the technological revolution, and as a homeschooler, I have had a front-row seat to technology's great impact.
Many of the courses I have been privileged to take in high school have been in the form of DVDs, like my Constitutional Literacy course. Other courses have been based in traditional textbooks but have still incorporated technology into additional learning; for example, my physics course included supplementary videos as learning aids. I have accessed other materials through the internet, such as my biology textbook, which was fully online. Indeed, some of the most enriching, rewarding, and entertaining courses I have taken have been made possible by my access to contemporary modes of learning. Technology has thus served as a powerful vehicle for academic learning and has expanded what and how much I learn.
Technological tools have also proven invaluable for comprehension of the material in my courses. Online translation tools have allowed me to bypass the tedium of relying on a Spanish-English dictionary. If a word or sentence is unknown or confusing, I can understand it within seconds, not minutes. This saves me time and improves my comprehension of the language. Furthermore, I, like leagues of other high school students, appreciate search engines' power to clarify difficult material. Their vast expanse of knowledge is a priceless learning aid. I have utilized them to understand material year after year.
The technological revolution has opened up a world of learning possibilities to me. It has shaped what and how I learn and changed from whom I learn it. I have been able to use it to save time and effort while expanding my understanding of coursework. Thus, modern technology has made a positive impact on my classroom experience.
