The Gap Year to Success by Joseph - August 2019 Scholarship Essay

The gap year was something I worry about during and even before I started college. I now find this ironic because I am contemplating taking a gap year due to financial issues. These financial issues would greatly influence what I do during my gap year if I were to take one.
If I take a gap year, I would do two main things. First of all, I would find a well paying job to help me make enough money to take classes the following year. I've sadly been put in a rough situation where i have to pay most of my tuition and rent out of pocket. Therefore I would need to come up with as much money as i can get to help me do this. I would also try to find a job related to my major which would give me experience and possibly help me after i graduate from college.
The second thing I would try to do during a gap year is get an internship. Internships are a great way to gain valuable experience in your anticipated field of work and are amazing ways to help find jobs for after college. Also, an internship is required by my major to graduate so a gap year would be a great chance to get this out of the way so i wouldn't have to completely stop my schoolwork for a year.
In short, I wouldn't spend my gap year traveling or partying or having endless fun, I would work hard so i can continue college and be successful later in life.
