The flow of the river by Jordynne - September 2014 Scholarship Essay
Imagine a stunning blue river, cutting through the contours of the hills that surround it. The pace of it rushes around banks in some areas, and in others, it lazily takes a stroll paste the trees on the bank. The name of this river; Life. There are two options to this river. Most people get frustrated with the way it moves, and where it goes. They sit on the bank and pout about Life. That is not how this river works. The other way is to hop in and enjoy it’s rhythms and flows.
There is a problem with the first option. This person on the side of the bank is getting nowhere in life. Choosing to pout about the beautiful contours of this river causes unproductivity and stress in the human on the bank.
My advice is simple. Grab an inner tube, and a glass of cold lemonade, and enjoy the river. What this means is that it is a great skill to be flexible with life, and to not stress the little things. This is especially key while in college. College is not for the familiar, it is for the new experiences and changes of flow in life. This means that being able to be flexible and to be okay with change is one of the most needed skills to go through college, and life.
