Vision to reality by Jordyn - March 2015 Scholarship Essay
Warren G. Bennis once said, “Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality.” A college student is a leader. He has a dream or a vision and while attending college he is trying to create his new reality. To be able to put in the effort and time to create an individual’s reality, takes leadership. It is necessary for one to portray leadership skills throughout college to be successful. Leading does not have to be spectacular. It can be as simple as turning in assignments or studying for midterms or finals.
Qualities found in a good leader such as drive, initiative, strength, and focus, are beneficial to a college student. Drive helps a student keep going and push forward after working and studying for hours. Initiative is necessary for a college student because he needs to be willing to step up to the plate and work hard for what he wants to accomplish. Strength is important throughout college because a student can become tempted to become a follower and chase after the wrong crowd while he should be focusing on strengthening his mind to be ready for his future. A college student needs to have focus in order to remain on task while studying and keeping grades where they should be. If a student does not have these qualities, he may grow lazy in his work, grades could drop, and he could waste valuable time and resources.
The college years are a time to prepare for the future, make life-long friends, learn a lot, laugh often, and experience independence. With leadership qualities, a student can insure his collegiate success.
