Advice for Teachers by Jordyn - January 2015 Scholarship Essay

If I could give teachers one piece of advice to help me learn it would have to be to make class and assignments based more off of "today's world". I feel like I learn more and enjoy doing my homework when it's something new and fun. When I am asked to just read a textbook and answer questions over it, it isn't as fun and I won't learn as much. Teachers now are starting to use electronics more. I feel like we learn better because we are so used to being on the computer, email or different websites.

I know I retain more information if the concept is explained in simpler terms. I can read text but I need examples or a simplified version so I can understand it better. For example, in math, I can't just look at a book and figure it out I need a teacher to show us step by step how to do it. In other subjects, like vocabulary words, I need the simplest version to remember, not the formal definition.

Electronics are becoming apart of our daily lives more and more. I think teachers need to really take advantage of the electronics and show students learning can really be fun. When using resources correctly students will enjoy homework.
