During their high school career, students begin to question the importance of a college education. A college education provides more opportunities than a high school education alone. Many students are ready for school to be over after they get through high school, but to be successful in life a college education will open up many doors for students to go further.

Our economy has been improved from a manufacturing-economy to an economy based on knowledge. This makes having a college education today important because people that have a college degree will more than likely get the job before a person that just has a high school education. A college degree is a gateway to better opportunities. Being in a class with a professor who is an expert in what is being taught allows the student to think more and learn past what high school has taught them. Therefore, the student betters themselves and their knowledge to enable them to be successful as they go on with their profession they desire.

My goal throughout high school was to become a doctor. I knew I had to work hard to achieve my goal, but going to college would be a whole different journey. When a baby is born, he or she needs specialized care to help make the transition from growing and developing in the womb to living outside in the world. Neonatal physicians care for newborns who are born prematurely with health issues. They diagnose conditions in the newborns, such as breathing problems, infections, and birth defects. Throughout my experience of finding out I had Type 1 Diabetes, I always had someone there to help me with my life changing experience. I've always wanted to give back to parents with babies facing medical issues the same help I received. The parents struggle to understand why their child has to go through these health issues. Therefore, they need someone to support them and who they can trust to help their baby live a healthy life, as he/she grows older.

For me to be able to achieve this goal, I needed to further my education buy going to college. College would give me better opportunities and the knowledge I needed to be successful. It is important for me to make a life for myself by making sure I have a job that I love to do everyday and that keeps me stable as well. Only having a high school education would not allow me to have a successful job that enabled me to make a living for myself, I would be living on the edge financially all the time because our economy is based on knowledge.

I love helping others and becoming a neonatal physician would fulfill my desire to continue helping others. My life changing experience was not easy to adjust to. Therefore, I know parents with babies having special needs will not adjust to their life changing experience very easily. I am determined to go to college to better my education and myself to meet my goal to become a neonatal physician so I can say that my job is to help others and to make sure their babies live a healthy life.
