Education Lives On! by Jordan - April 2015 Scholarship Essay

I am pursuing graduate degree in counseling out of a new found respect for what counselors in our schools do to give students a positive connection between teachers, parents, community and outreach services. Teaching has always been a passion of mine and a career I planned on pursuing. This last year in preparation for graduate school I had the opportunity to talk with teachers, counselors and administrators. Those conversations along with working as a school secretary in a Title I K-8 have led me to this path. I am the person in the office that sees the upset child, the frustrated family and child welfare worker before counselors are even involved. I enjoy having the opportunity to calm, soothe and inform. I have seven solid years of working with children of all age groups. My mother, a former probation officer and now a child welfare caseworker has inspired me to look deeper and tap my hearts passion for wanting to effect change in young people.

All in all I believe the purpose of education is to instill new ideas and effect change in young people. Without instilling new ideas our children cannot grow and expand their imagination. Because of my educational background I have thrived in classrooms where the teacher made a strong connection with their students. This strong connection has empowered me to do the same. Without education I believe children would be lost socially and academically.
